Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

Describe what you expected should happen and what did happen. Please link any large code pastes as a Github Gist

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Have OpenSUSE Tumbleweed with AppArmor
  2. Install steam
  3. Try to launch steam

This started yesterday. I rolled back to last month and nothing changed. Still crashes, but at least now steam asks if I want to try restarting it, which does nothing.

Here are the logs.

Be sure to check the old logs too, as I rolled back and didn't have GPU drivers when I tried launching it again

For my troubleshooting steps:

First I copied steamclient.so from ~/.local/share/Steam/linux64 to ~/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_64
That stopped spamming my notifications and returned only one notification.

The logs ended up showing that the browser was being created, but I still wasn't getting the steam UI.

So I went nuclear.

I deleted everything in
~/.local/share/Steam except for the steamapps folder.
I also deleted everything under ~/.steam

I re-launched steam and it rebuilt everything but the little UI explicitly stated it was rebuilding the runtime.

So I imagine someone could get away with deleting ~/.local/share/Steam/steamrt, and then deleting ~/.steam and it would probably work.

I'm still not entirely sure what happened.

I was messaging a friend on steam yesterday, which is unusual we were using steam chat. I sent a link to a reddit image to my friend and steam crashed about 2 minutes later. I had also started downloading Nier: Automata somewhat into the chat. I tried steam --reset yesterday and after updating the webhelper it was stuck all night, I woke up to the command still unfinished.

Today I actually put effort into solving it. So it's solved for me not sure if the issue itself should be closed?

Would you may add the path how you solved it for you? @Greeley
