Just trying out Cogs on Linux. Game appears to be working OK, but when I tried to go fullscreen it crashed back to the client without warning. Looking in the terminal, it appears to be attempting to span both monitors:

Couldn't set 3840x1080 OpenGL video mode: No video mode large enough for 3840x1080
Game removed: AppID 26500 "Cogs", ProcID 20506
saving roaming config store to 'sharedconfig.vdf'
roaming config store 2 saved successfully

I have several multi-monitor machines available, but this one in particular is running two 1920x1080 monitors (you probably guessed that). Work rig rather than gaming rig, so pretty standard hardware. Full machine data follows:

Must be a Radeon/Eyefinity specific issue then.

What window manager are you using? Compiz and metacity (fallback) work very differently with multi-monitor with my ATI setup. I use 12.04 with full unity, but 99% of the time I kill compiz/unity after launch, reverting to metacity because anything gl-based works 1000% better without compiz. Problem is metacity reflects in my case 6x 1920x1200 displays vs. my framebuffer running at 11520x1200. Compiz needs hardcoded to do so, but it works, just absolutely poorly at that res. Otherwise I can full-screen things at 11520x1200 usually, gl even.

It would be wise of Valve to investigate how framebuffers are generally handled among various windowing software, as well as how to deal with Compiz. Best I can deal with it is turn it off, but either way it causes grief for anything 2+ monitors.

Has this issue been brought to Lazy 8 Studio's attention?

Closing old non-Steam issue (can still be found in search).
