Debian under Distrobox woes

Chimera Linux running Steam in Debian Trixie via Distrobox

I tried to switch to the beta but the settings window hangs
System is up to date
Old laptop with integrated Intel graphics

I can't switch to the beta or successfully change the install location of a game (it wants to install to /tmp and thinks it has 78GB free; that's actually my system /. Shutting down Steam also hangs...
I'm getting bombarded with e.g.:
