After the redesign of the controller menu in the settings, you can no longer change the default Steam Input settings.

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

When the "Controller" section of the Steam settings tab was first worked over, there were options under "External gamepad settings" where you could select defaults for how Steam Input handled your controllers. See this example screenshot from PCWorld.

Recently, however, the controller menu was given a facelift. While it looks nicer, you cannot change your default Steam Input settings for controllers.

Image

While I assume this was done under the assumption that most people have not changed the defaults for their Steam Input settings (or have purposefully disabled them), it leaves people like me who had it on by default up a creek without a paddle.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. In the Steam client's menu, select Steam > Settings
  2. In the settings dialogue, select "Controller"
  3. Observe that the options to set Steam Input defaults are missing.

Well I have egg on my face. It does on my desktop but not on the Deck, so it looks like a general change to SteamOS in preparation for the Steam Controller.
