Hello @Benc32, in general, hardware design requests are not tracked in this issue tracker. Having written that, Any modern PC form factor will have a USB port of some kind and it makes more sense to just use a wireless keyboard from your vendor of choice.
Nothing extracted yet.
Hi Valve team,
I wanted to suggest a feature for the upcoming Steam Machine controller. Since the design hasn’t been finalized yet, this might be the right time to consider it.
A lot of SteamOS users play from the couch, and typing Wi‑Fi passwords, searching games, chatting, or entering text can be slow with the on‑screen keyboard. Xbox and PlayStation solved this with small clip‑on chatpad keyboards.
My suggestion:
Add a small accessory port on the bottom or back of the new controller so a compact keyboard add‑on can clip in.
This would let SteamOS users type quickly without needing a separate wireless keyboard, and it would make the controller feel more console‑friendly for Steam Machine setups.
This wouldn’t replace the trackpads or gyro — it would just give an optional accessory for people who want faster text entry.
Thanks for considering it!
