Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

The error started occuring after updating my system yesterday. I remember it installing newer drivers for my amd graphics card.

I started Steam on my host PC. Then I started Steam Link on my other PC (Linux Mint). When attempting to connect, Steam crashes on the host PC and restarts. I've run Steam via Terminal on the host pc and get this error after the crash before it restarts automatically:

ffmpeg error: Output failed: -16842924.
CGameStreamVideoStageVAAPI: Error encoding: Error number -16842924 occurred
amdgpu: The CS has cancelled because the context is lost. This context is guilty of a hard recovery.

I tried disabling "Enable Hardware Encoding" in Steam > Settings > Remote Play > Advanced Streaming Options > Enable Advanced Host Options. When attempting to stream via Steam Link, Steam starts into Big Picture correctly and streams it to my other PC (albeit with rather low fps). But, when launching a game, I get the "Processing Vulkan Shaders" Popup which freezes at about 50% everytime.

Running the game I'm trying to play on my host PC alone (without any streaming) works perfectly.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Start Steam on Host PC
  2. Start Steam Link on other PC
  3. Press "Start Playing" in Steam Link

Same issue on Nobara Linux, since when I updated the system the Steam Client on my host pc crashes whenever it enters big picture. I have an RX 9070 XT with a Ryzen 7 5700x3D.

Same issue on Ubuntu Linux 24.04, with AMD RX 580, although the issue also happened with geforce gtx 980. I am using the snap version of Steam (let me know if I need to use the .deb version for support here). Same steps to reproduce the issue, and it reproduces every time. I get this error preceeding the crash:

[E] pw.loop [loop.c:67 pw_loop_new()] 0x65b6e490: can't make support.system handle: No such file or directory

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Start Steam on Host PC
  2. Start Steam Link on other PC
  3. Press "Start Playing" in Steam Link

This is also affecting me. Connecting with the Steam Link app on Apple TV to my Linux Mint PC running steam causes the steam client to crash.

Same issue using my Ubuntu 24.04.4 LTS PC and any Steam Link device
