Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

Expected behaviour: the steam controller sends the inputs configured in steam input to the game.

What happens: intermittently, on and off ca every 20 seconds or so, the controller sends double inputs.

for example: a b button press sends both a controller B event, and a keyboard escape event. causing the game to pause when attempting to crouch.

If right touchpad haptics is disabled in steaminput, it becomes enabled for the duration of the malfunction.

it seems to happen more often when in game, than on desktop, but sometimes on desktop also. I have experienced this in Asetto Corsa, Prey, and L.A. Noire.

ive experienced it in both kde desktop, and with steam launched in a standalone gamescope session with gamescope-session-plus.

looking at evtest for "Valve Software Steam Controller Puck Mouse", no events fire when the controller is behaving normally, but when the double input occur, the right trackpad generates lots of events.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Launch steam under KDE Plasma under arch
  2. start a game
  3. play for a short while
  4. observe double inputs, B

As often happens when you ask for help, you figure out the problem yourself shortly after: a faulty usb port seemed to cause the issue!
