Your system information

  • Steam client version (build number or date): SteamOS version: SteamOSHolo3.8.5
  • Distribution (e.g. Ubuntu):
  • Opted into Steam client beta?: [Yes/No] Yes
  • Have you checked for system updates?: [Yes/No] Yes

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

My TV (TCL 55S435) suffered another half-baked update from the manufacturer, and among the "streamlining of settings", HDR cannot be disabled if detected on a given input. This TV's HDR mode is horrifically broken, for the steam deck+steam dock it horribly whites the entire display except the top left corner, or only lights the top left of the display if woken from sleep. This makes it excruciatingly difficult to manually disable HDR for the steam deck, as it doesn't allow setting HDR mode for external displays or mirroring displays when undocked.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Buy smart TV.
  2. Recieve forced update enforcing terrible HDR
  3. Try to guess / pre-plan button presses when you can only see System and Internet in the left sidebar.

I am aware that the issue is not directly with Steam BPM, but the optimistic "always enable when available" policy only works when every participant is functioning correctly. With smart TV's not offering rollback to prior firmware versions, and in my case, not offering to disable an HDR mode that has only ever worked with a PS5 or built in apps, it would be greatly appreciated if we can just disable it system-wide. HDR is not an automatic benefit, and the presumption of benefit except for select games or user preference just doesn't cut it. I would rather have a functional SDR display than a broken HDR one.
