If it freezes your entire PC, it's almost certainly a hardware or OS-level software problem.
My processor is about 75 degrees and video about 65 degrees, this is normal for my configuration (core i7 2600k, gtx460). And as I said, I CAN reboot with SysRq key, this is impossible if my processor has an overheat, because interrupts catching will not work also.
Just synthetically reproduced this condition: CPU temp rised to 95 degrees, it halts, and I can't reboot my PC with Alt+SysRq+B.
Did you overclock in BIOS? I have the same CPU and don't even reach such temps (75 C°) @ 4.5 Ghz with air cooling. Mine are way below 60 C°.
Linux is more sensitiv to OC. I had conditions where I could run Prime 95 for 12 Hours on Windows but couldn't even boot into Linux because of Kernel Panic.
Nope, I didn't OC my PC at all. I'm reaching such temps due to stock cooler, actually :)
On stock speeds with stock cooler it shouldn't go that high.
Yes, my highest temperature was 73 degrees while running wine compilation with -j10
