Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

I logged into Steam on my browser, and even after logging out of that, logging out of Steam in the client and even killing all Steam runtimes, the Steam client insists that I have no internet connection and prohibits me from launching online games, or manually downloading content whatsoever. Steam support refuses to render assistance due to me running Mint and not Ubuntu.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Log into Steam in Firefox web browser
  2. Attempt to download game or launch any online only game
  3. Receive attached error message

I have this exact issue starting this afternoon. Running Debian Forky with a Radeon GPU.

QQuantifiedPizza 2026-06-24 github

Well, then I guess it has to do with the Steam Server Status claiming only half of Valve's services are online, which is really weird. I was getting continuous "Access Denied" messages in the terminal when I inspected the content_log.txt.

same issue on fedora with amd gpu

Getting same issue for Arch linux as well

Also had this since morning today. Seems that Steam could not download a Proton Experimental update. I changed in Properties > Compatibility to a different Proton version and it solved this issue for me.

Same on Ubuntu 24.04.4 LTS since this morning. Yesterday it was working fine.

I have the same issue on CachyOS with Steam version 1782257239. Some games start/update as normal, others don't.

Edit: This fixed it. https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/569290059213200628/

It worked for me too, thanks for the tip

Same on 7.1.1-2-cachyos and Steam Version: 1782257239 since early hours of this morning.
Also confirmed - https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/569290059213200628/ fixed the issue

Same here, Fedora 44. Changing Proton versions to any other than Experimental fixed it.

Same as ItsLaguna, switching to any other version of Proton worked. Games failed to download and install until I forced them to use something other than Experimental. That entire build might have gotten a broken update last night when the CM systems entered a partial failure.

sitting on Nobara (Fedora) same issue... wth

Thanks! This worked for me. Changed from Proton Experimental to Proton 9 and it worked. Running Linux Mint Debian Edition.

Arch 7.1.1 here and same issue.

Also confirmed - https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/569290059213200628/ fixed the issue

  1. Exit Steam completely.
  2. Remove the local Proton Experimental installation and manifest:
    rm -rf ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Proton\ Experimental
    rm -f ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/appmanifest_1493710.acf
  3. Start Steam again.

I tried this and for some reason, Proton Experimental is still broken. Should I have done pkill steamall or something instead of just exiting Steam normally?

This fixed the issue for me on Gentoo - I'm sure it's the same for all linuxes

Thanks for reporting this issue. We've shipped a fix for the Access Denied error in the backend. You should now be able to update Proton Experimental.

If you still see the error, restart your client to make sure it picks up the latest config from the servers. If the error persists after a client restart, please let me know.
