Tray-icon context menu lists phantom "recent" games never owned or played (RedM, FiveM, Europa Universalis III Demo); no way to clear or disable the list on Linux

Environment

  • Native Steam client on Linux (Wayland session)
  • Distro: CachyOS (Arch-based), KDE Plasma — not distro-specific (see below)
  • Account: Licenses page shows "No licenses found"; purchase history = Dota 2 only

Summary
The right-click menu of the Steam system-tray icon has a "recent games" section listing three titles I have never owned, bought, or launched: RedM, FiveM, Europa Universalis III Demo. They appear only in this tray menu — not in Library, not on Licenses, not in Purchase History, not in account Recent Activity.

The same list also shows "Steam Linux Runtime 3.0 (sniper)", which is a runtime, not a game. Of the five entries, only Dota 2 is legitimate — the rest are a runtime plus three never-owned titles. (Screenshot attached.)

Evidence it is server-side, not local cache

  • Closed Steam fully, cleared RecentLocalPlayedGameIDs in userdata/<id>/config/localconfig.vdf.
  • After restart the three titles reappear → re-pushed from the server, not stored locally.

Actual activity (contrast)
Only games ever launched on this account (all long uninstalled): Dota 2, DCS World, War Thunder, PAYDAY 2 (per the Steam Help Center). The phantom titles are not among them.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Native Steam, fresh Linux install.
  2. Right-click the tray icon → observe the games list.
  3. Phantom titles present.
  4. Close Steam → clear RecentLocalPlayedGameIDs → restart → they return.

Requests

  1. Investigate why appids for never-owned games are served for this account, and remove them.
  2. On Linux there is no way to remove individual entries from this tray menu or to disable it — please make the list user-controllable or add a disable option.

Notes

  • Steam Support ticket HT-3KV4-8G86-V42R was closed without addressing this; support repeatedly redirected here citing unsupported distro, though the issue is account/server-side and distro-independent.
  • Searched existing issues before filing; no prior report covers these phantom non-owned entries.

Also same issue in the native Steam client tray menu on Fedora (X session). These titles suddenly appeared a few months ago even though I never owned or played any of it:
RedM
FiveM
Europa Universalis III Demo
Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, Episode Two Demo

It is annoying now that the tray menu is so ridiculously large because of the unwanted items.

Since this has been sitting ignored, here's a heads-up: if there's still no response, I'll strip this crap out of the client myself, add a hook so the patch re-applies after every Steam update, and drop a full how-to in this thread.

Nothing extracted yet.
