Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

When running the native Linux version of Counter-Strike 2, the character models shown in the Loadout/Inventory screen render incorrectly.

The player models are clipped or positioned incorrectly in the preview window. Actual gameplay is unaffected and first-person weapon models render normally during matches.

While using the native Linux build, I also noticed that only Borderless Windowed mode is available in the video settings. A fullscreen option does not appear.

I performed the following troubleshooting:

  • Verified game files multiple times.
  • Reinstalled Counter-Strike 2.
  • Performed a completely fresh installation of Fedora 44.
  • Reset the CS2 configuration files.
  • Removed custom launch options.

None of these resolved the issue.

However, forcing Counter-Strike 2 to run using Proton Experimental immediately fixes the problem. The preview models render correctly without changing any hardware, drivers, or game settings.

This suggests the issue is specific to the native Linux build.

I've attached screenshots comparing the native Linux build and Proton Experimental.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Install Counter-Strike 2 using the native Linux build.
  2. Launch the game on Fedora 44 with GNOME 50 (Wayland) and NVIDIA driver 595.80.
  3. Open the Loadout or Inventory screen.
  4. Observe that the player preview model is clipped or incorrectly positioned.
  5. Force the game to use Proton Experimental.
  6. Launch the game again and open the same screen.
  7. Observe that the preview model renders correctly.

Everyone is having the same issue with CS2 on Linux. There's another post about this on the csgo-osx-linux github page of ValveSoftware and there are hundreds affected by it. Even though Valve has carried Linux Gaming pretty far both with proton and The Steam Hardware, most people suggest they dont test Linux releases of their games. Shame on Valve.
