Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

After running steam with steam -pipewire and setting up a region of 2560x1440 in the the middle of the screen with the Screen sharing permission, can can go on to the client device and start a session on the host computer.

I am trying to run a game with gamescope --force-grab-cursor -b -W 2560 -H 1440 -- %command% to lock down play space and aspect ratio at the middle of the screen, and I have setup my screen sharing to be precisely set middle of the wide-screen, and encompasses this region roughly (as well as i can with no programmatic way to define it) at an 2560x1440, 1.77 aspect ratio.

I then pop into my client device, be it steamframe or steamdeck and attempt to play the game remotely, however the game is stretched into the 3.55 aspect ratio of my actual screen (5120x1440) being , which was at 2560x720, increasing the resolution now scales it up and down on this.

This is very much relevant to Steam Frame, as the resolution is arbitrary, but is repeatable on the steam Deck

Related to https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/6577 as with its removal/non-function we cannot play at intended resolutions, this was a potential work around, but is not possible.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Have a working setup to stream from Linux steam host to a device, such as the Steam Frame or Steam Deck.
  2. Screen share a region of the screen that roughly a square. If you have existing permissions set, you can use tools like flatpack-kcm (on arch) to remove permissions via the application permissions for steam.
  3. Set up a game to run in gamescope with gamescope --force-grab-cursor -b -W 800 -H 800 -- %command% or similar settings, any which a game would ultimately allow. Expected Streamed Region is a Square aspect ratio
  4. Start the game on the client device, Note that the resolution is matches the aspect ratio of your hosts screen, not the aspect ratio of the region shared.

Expected:

The client should play at the aspect ratio which the region defines, which can be completely different from the host screen it self.

https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/6577 would also probably make this unnecessary, if it worked/existed.
