For a user without the required font, text layout can break with overlaying text rather than boxes. Oddly it behaves correctly in some instances, see screenshot.
I’m using two characters from Emoji in my username, Evo changes username to contain the same.

His name-change line contains the correct behaviour, boxes.
Subsequent lines have overlapping text.
Chat userlist doesn’t display anything after the first unknown character

Yh my friend has the same problem if I use that type of name.
Steam in linux doesnt support it for some reason.
