Looks like a problem with accessing fonts on your system, anything strange about your setup? Do you have the en_UTF8 loc installed?

Aalexmurray 2013-02-12 github

Nothing weird about my setup that I know of, it's standard F18 using gnome-shell on x86_64 using spot fedora steam repo. Before reporting this I did a bunch of googling and couldn't find any similar reports so I was also thinking it could be something specific to my setup but as I said I really try and keep everything as standard as possible.

I'm not sure I understand you're question regarding loc can you explain a bit more what you mean?

Aalfred-valve maintainer 2013-02-12 github

I don't know the details for your distribution but the game requires that the configuration files for the en_UTF8 locale.

Aalexmurray 2013-02-13 github

As far as I know (I'm not infront of that machine at the moment) I am using the en_AU.utf8 locate - perhaps this could be the problem? What font is required?

Aalexmurray 2013-02-13 github

Okay so it seems it was a problem at my end - as I am running on x86_64 I also needed the nvidia driver libraries for i686 installed - ie after a

sudo yum install xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.i686

It is all working now.

EEzwen 2013-02-17 github

I was having the exact same issue (Fedora 18 x64 and Nvidia card as well), and installing xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.i686 solved the problem for me as well. Thanks!

Yet, couldn't the game rely on x64 libraries? Isn't this a (minor) bug?

Jjohndrinkwater 2013-02-18 github

@Zerwan the game is not 64bit, so no :)
Is this a Fedora packaging bug, why doesn’t that library get installed with the graphics stack?

EEzwen 2013-02-18 github

You're right. I guessed it's not installed because all fedora applications of the x64 version are compiled/packaged for x64.

Anyway, half-life works now \o/ :)

Nothing extracted yet.
