Do you have to play the game or do you get it for just loading the game? Source games don't work on my Intel GPU... So I can't play it. It just loads everything black, sounds work though.
The update just came out and you just have to start TF2. Running it from text mode is enough. You don't have to join a server.

As is advertised all over the steam site (ex: http://store.steampowered.com/news/9943/) it says logging into TF2 from now until the end of the month will give you a promo Tux item. I have logged in and started TF2 (as well as played a game) and have not received a Tux.
Maybe it is not out yet but if that is the case the wording is unclear.
