Free space on a partition incorrectly determined during (pre)install of a game

When installing a game, Steam checks the free space on the target partition before allowing the install to proceed... except... if you have used a symbolic link to point the install folder at a partition with more free space then Steam reports the free space of the partition the link itself is located ON rather than de-referencing the link and checking the free space of the partition the link points AT. In the case of a home folder/partition that is running tight on space this can prevent installation of certain large games (Team Fortress 2, Killing Floor, etc) until enough free space for the game is freed on the /home partition. In my case I have a separate 700 gig partition which is used for installation of software/games, etc. which has far more than enough empty space currently for the games I am wishing to install, but Steam refuses to install them until I free the amount of requested space on the /home partition rather than on the partition where the actual game WILL be installing.

Thanks for reporting! We already have this issue in our system, #1534. I have a suggestion here https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/1600#issuecomment-13429489 on how to relocate your Library onto the other partition.

Thank you for closing this issue as "Duplicate", sir. My apologies for reporting a known issue. I did make what I thought was a fairly solid attempt at searching for this issue before posting, but I must have been having a "bad search day". Normally my research skills are better than that. I also thank you for listing links to the duplicate, and a potential solution/workaround. Makes life easier for those who might accidentally stumble across this during a search. And lastly, my thanks to Valve/Steam for treating bugs as something to be dealt with/repaired rather than hidden/swept under the rug, unlike some other companies who shall go un-named. ;)
