I am running Linux MINT 14 MATE 64 bit. I've tried re-downloading the install file, and obviously reinstalling.

Steam was running flawlessly last week. Last night Feb 14th, when I tried to run it by typing steam in the terminal window it would immediately kick me to the black loading screen quickly followed by the log-in screen. It almost seems like a quick reboot.

Ive also tried running it through a desktop shortcut to no avail. My system specs are as follows:

I am running an ASUS G74-SX
16 GIGs of RAM
Intel Core I7-2630QM, 2.0 GHZ
Geforce GTX 560M (3.0 GB)
Nvidia 310 drivers.

The error I am receiving is as follows:

Running Steam on linuxmint 14 64-bit
STEAM_RUNTIME is enabled automatically
SteamUpdateUI: An X Error occurred
X Error of failed request: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)
Major opcode of failed request: 154 (NV-GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request: 4
Resource id in failed request: 0x3600002
Serial number of failed request: 43
xerror_handler: X failed, continuing

If anyone has encountered this problem and has found a solution please provide me with some assistance.

Thank you,

Hello all, I have resolved my own issue. It seems that a fresh installation of the NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-310.32.run proprietary drivers solved my issues. If you're having similar issues and you're running Linux MINT do the following,

From the desktop use the short cut ctrl+alt+F1 to open the 1st virtual terminal.

from there :

sudo killall mdm

then CD down to wherever your video card drivers reside and do the following

sudo sh driverfilename

follow the installation procedure to the end then type

reboot

and hit enter, let the machine reboot and then try to run Steam.

Hopefully this has been beneficial to someone out there!

Have a nice day,

Closing as this appears resolved (people searching will still find it).
