however this is not about running, this is about putting a link to website for those who don't know about availability of Steam in their distros and don't know about alien, etc.
Steam doesn't officially have a package for those distros yet; they're community hosted packages. A better solution to links would be a suggestion at the end of the "get steam for ubuntu" section saying something along the lines of "or check your distro's repositories for available packages."
It was only recently that SuSE/openSuSE had a valid package because the higher-ups didn't like the terms of the license.
