@ElderSnake Is this the only game that does this? Or are you seeing it with other games that Steam manages?
@bdeen-valve Only this game so far. It may well be something that only Double-Fine can fix in their game, though it's odd that a restart of the actual Steam Client fixes the issue, albeit temporarily.
There are some known issues with sound that we should have resolved.. please opt-into the linuxbeta beta channel and test the binary there.. the password is p3nguin and please let me know if it fixes things.
I had the same issue and opting into the linux beta fixed it.
In my The Cave properties I can't even see a Beta tab anymore :S
Nevertheless though, perhaps I've somehow been auto-opted in or something... I had an update to The Cave yesterday and it seems the issue is indeed fixed :D
Thanks a lot. If it crops up again I'll be sure to let you know.
I had the beta pushed live yesterday as I received a number of positive responses that it solved the issue

As the title states, I've found that after first launch The Cave will no longer have any sound on subsequent launches.
This is reproducible for me by simply restarting Steam. If I restart Steam and launch The Cave, sound works no problem. In fact if you never go past the menu screen and exit the game the sound will keep working on re-launch.
However, once I have loaded an actual level of the game and then save and quit, sound is dead on any subsequent start-ups of the game until Steam client is restarted.
I can't see any errors of any kind in terminal except the usual Steam GTK and breakpad messages :S
Also having Steam Runtime enabled or disabled makes no difference, it works exactly the same.
