TF2 does not present alternate install location upon reinstall

As I installed TF2 before it was possible to install in other locations I am not sure if this is a legacy issue or if alternative install of TF2 is not offered.

I'm not seeing the option to select the install location of TF2 after having uninstalled TF2 by right clicking and say remove all local content. Then after uninstalling was complete I selected install and even tried restarting steam, but nothing changed in the presentation.

I was removing TF2 to install on another drive, but the option to install in another location is not presented.

TF2 is on an older content system and this will eventually get fixed when it moves to the latest one.

Thanks for the answer, gdrewb, but your answer raises more questions than it answers.

If it's because TF2 is "on an older content system", why in the world does Valve's oldest game (Half-Life 1), install without a problem on my secondary hard drive? Of course, that doesn't mean anything, but it's very odd.

I hope this problem is fixed quickly. I love LFD2, TF2, HL2 and Portal, but I can't afford to install them on my SSD.

I'm assuming the new content system is what is known as Steampipe?
In that case, I have a problem with updating to it: I've run out of space on my home partition (mainly because of TF2 being there) and don't have enough space to do the convertion process. So, I need to move the game files to my new HDD to do the convertion, however moving requires the new content system.
Is there a solution to that that is not editing my partition or fully redownloading the game?

I’m not sure there is @l1bbcsg, but at least if you removed the game, installing the new steampipe beta would give you the ability to select which location to install it to - which would help with your limited home.

Is there anything else you can remove on the drive to temporarily make space for the conversion to happen? If not you could try renaming the game directory in your SteamApps directory, removing local files from the Steam client (which won't do anything since you renamed the directory) then rename the directory back and reinstall the game (at which point hopefully the client will reuse the files on disk). The simplest and safest thing to do is uninstall and reinstall, unfortunately.
