This only happened to me with Xinerama enabled.
Similar to #133, but the monitor DOES come back on once the game is closed,
which is unlike #133. I am more concerned with why it is going off when the
game is running.
Away from that computer at the moment, but will check with Xinerama when I
get home.

this happens to me with my primary monitor connected via HDMI to the gtx560ti while my secondary monitor is connected at the DVI port:
When I start Killing Floor it will run on the small DVI-connected monitor "DFP-0" instead of the big HDMI monitor "DFP-1" I set as primary in nvidia-settings.
xorg.conf contains
Option "nvidiaXineramaInfoOrder" "DFP-1"
which is handled by valve games (TF2, CSbeta) correctly.
btw I don't use Xinerama but twinview.
currently as workaround for this i using windowed mode with monitor resolution - border size, it also provide additional convenience like ability to move mouse out from game window if steam overlay opened for example, currently i using this workaround for penumbra, killing floor, some other games
Closing old non-Valve issue (can still be found in search).
I've noticed in several games now, (Penumbra: Overture and Killing Floor,) that when the game launches in full screen, it literally disables the secondary monitor. Secondary monitor input is shut off, and that monitor shows the "Shutting down for power conservation" window, then shuts off.
Not ideal, as sometimes I like to watch a movie or have a walkthrough or guide, etc etc on the second monitor. This issue likely exists in other games as well, but I have only verified it thus far with Killing Floor and Penumbra: Overture. I noticed several other issues on Fullscreen/dual-monitor related bugs, but nobody had mentioned this one specifically.
