There's a separator between your games and the menu actions. It's possible you're not seeing it because the app indicator menu translation is not preserving it, but it does work properly on Unity.
@muesli4 it would help if you did list which software configuration you are using, and maybe look into that DE having a bug; its working fine on my gnome classic desktop.
Actually I'm using the MATE desktop environment (gnome 2 fork). But when you say it's working on your gnome classic desktop, the bug will be in MATE, I will create a bug report on their github page.

Did you get a response from MATE? Does this issue need to stay open here?
Closing as this doesn't seem to be a Steam problem.
No I didn't get a response yet. They're very few people and things need some time. But I think it will be fixed and it can be closed.
Nothing extracted yet.
Hi,
this is just a minor issue, and I don't think this depends on my hardware or software configuration (therefore I will not post any console output or configuration):
When left clicking on the steam icon in the system tray, the menu that appears lacks of separators between "previously played games"/"steam sections"/"quit". (Have a look at the windows version, this differs.)
I found this a little bit distracting and I like how it's done in the windows version. (Should be a quick fix and would improve the arrangement.)
