What does it do? Selecting this just puts a Steam.desktop file in ~/.config/autostart, certainly shouldn't affect booting!
I don't know! The only thing I did at this boot was I played a little of CSS and then selected that option. After that I got a black screen after POST.
I'm on 13.04 64bit BTW
If this happens to anyone else who may try this, definitely use a live disk to at least gain access to your ~/.config/autostart and see what it adds.

Are you absolutely sure that deleting that "~/.config/autostart" should contain Steam there? I'm willing to try it again but you must tell me what to do in case it happens again.
If there is no output after POST, that means that the bootloader has failed to load or the framebuffer did not initialize, you can tell the difference by paying close attention to the hard drive activity light. If the bootloader failed to start, then there will be little to no harddrive activity. If the framebuffer failed, then there would still be the normal amount of harddrive activity as the system comes up headless. My next course of action would be to reinstall grub.
Yes. After POST a black screen comes up as usual with a little underscore blinking, then the HD stops it's activity and it stays there.
@amarildojr it is unlikely that steam is what has caused your problem, because it does not have access to alter any element of the bootloader.
But this happened after I selected that option. I selected it and rebooted right after, it must be related to Steam. I dont think it's a bootloader problem, because after restarting there are options to start Ubuntu on Recovery mode, and no option to start the system works properly, it all leads either to the same black screen or to a console where I can't do anything.

Note: I didn't say to delete the autostart. I just said see what was added TO the file.

Strange. Tried everything, removing steam from /usr/share/applications didn`t work, removing clientregistry.blob also didn't work, not even removing Steam folder.
I'll re-install the system and NEVER do it again LOL
