Please don't depend on jockey-common, but mention it as a recommended package. I can't upgrade steam:i386, since its dependency steam-launcher:i386 depends on it, and jockey-common is unavailable on Debian.

As far as I know, Steam works fine without it (other than the updating issue), so it's not really a dependency.

If I'm not mistaken, jockey-common dependency was removed a while ago, why was it re added ?

What is the status of this issue? steam-launcher version 1.0.0.39 still depends on jockey-common. Is it really so hard to fix this? What's holding you back?

Valve can you be a bit clear how you use this software inside Steam? Jockey is a front-end for driver management:

It is a bothersome Ubuntu only package that will give a lot of users a headache trying to run Steam on a different distribution, and it is pretty much the only package preventing Steam from universally running flawlessly on any large dpkg based distribution.

I'd also like to see this change implemented. As a Debian user this dependency is a pain in the ass. In the mean time I'm going to fake the package with equivs
