EDIT: Did you pull in the games-util/steam-meta package in order for the dependencies to be pulled as well?
@Tele42 thanks, installing the package seemed to fix it.
I had already installed the package a long time ago, and it never seemed to pull in the above package. I also had to switch to the sabayonlinux.org repository, since it is not included in the sabayon-weekly repositories yet.

Due to the recent update of Steam, libSDL2.so.0 is required in ELF32 format, and this is not available on most linux distributions.
I've been running from Sabayon 11 amd64 (Gentoo-based system, fully updated), and from a fresh steam install.
