When rightclicking the systemtray icon, there is a huge delay on when the context menu pops up. This happens both in Gnome Classic and KDE4.

In Gnome it also causes very bad performance and lags (while the menu is open).

I can't provide any terminal output on the matter as steam wont launch properly when ran from terminal, it just stops progress on "Connecting to steam account..." and sits there indefinetly.

Ah sorry missed that

Actually, the other issue was closed because it was related to libappindicator in ubuntu. I do not even have unity installed. It would be great if you reopened this issue gdrewb.

Please consider it at least, as it is very annoying to have to wait 6-7 seconds to get a context menu, also none of my problems are related to the other issue.

Steam always uses libappindicator, as otherwise you wouldn't get a menu at all. libappindicator has fallbacks for non-Unity cases and that's where the problem lies, which is why #673 was closed as a non-Steam issue.

Ah, thanks for the clarification.

What does it fall back to if I may ask? I assume it isn't part of libappindicator as I do not have that package installed.

You'd need to ask Canonical to get details, but from what I know there's an underlying KDE KStatusNotifierItem standard that libappindicator builds on.

Nothing extracted yet.
