@chawlindel what desktop environment are you using, Mint’s default? Could you attach the output from steam’s system information as that contains some useful goodies.
It's the Cinnamon desktop.

After this I have to close it from the desktop to quit the game.
So, wait, this is the TF2 Beta we're talking about? Because I've started having the same issue as of last night as well. As far as I know, there haven't been any updates to it recently, and I'm sure I was able to use it properly before. I don't know about the regular game; I've been waiting until the SteamPipe conversion comes out of beta to install it. I tried validating and did find a tiny file that had to be redownloaded, but that didn't fix anything.
Some other stuff of note: If I hit ` to pull up the console, I'm able to type "map [filename]" and load up a map, but I can't click Continue on the MOTD screen or use the menu that pops up when I hit Esc. If I open and then close the console, I can use the arrow keys to navigate the menu, but I can't find a key that "presses" the button I'm highlighting.
If you want to help test TF2, use regular TF2 with the steampipe beta channel; TF2 Beta is using older code fwiw.
I get the same issue on linux mint, my suspicion is that it's to do with the update to cinnamon that happened a few days ago.
Same issue here running on Mint 13 32 bit. My system info: http://pastebin.com/XM2QiXdz Console output: http://pastebin.com/XMR6fg4j
I have the same problem with TF2 on Arch linux using i3. I can't click on anything.
This seems to only effect TF2 Beta. I installed the non-beta version and it was fine.
Also @pepijndevos what DE are you using?
@handuel none.
I will try the non-beta version as well. I was kind of assuming it would update itself, but that is not the case?
@pepijndevos Do you use a WM? If so which one. I have a feeling this may actually be an issue with certain WM's and DE's. Also the beta and the actual game are completely different things so it doesn't update. The beta contains extra weapons and ideas that valve are testing, and for some reason they released that version for linux first.
i3 is my WM. Or rather was, I'm installing a different one now.
If any of you are using TF2Beta, please remove it and install regular TF2. If you are on TF2 already, ignore my comment. @chawlindel do you still have this issue with regular TF2?
Hello, is anyone still seeing this issue with an up to date system?
Closing pending feedback.
@kisak-valve I am, apparently. Same problem as @pepijndevos. I'm using Steam on Arch Linux with i3 as my WM. TF2 boots just fine, but after a while, everything becomes unresponsive to about anything. I can't click, I can't type. If I switch out of TF2, it refuses to respond, too.
Hello @AuditeMarlow, it would probably be best to open a new issue report in the Source-1-Games issue tracker. In addition to the details you put here, please copy your system information from steam (Steam -> Help -> System Information) and put it in a gist, then include a link to the gist in that issue report. At a glance, it sounds like your issue is that TF2 stops rendering completely, while the issue described here indicates that the mouse keys still work in the menu.
Nothing extracted yet.
Everything seems fine when I start TF2, but when I try clicking entries in the menu, nothing happens. I can't even quit normally I need to switch to the desktop and close it from there. I tried navigating with arrow keys. It works, but I can't select anything using Enter. (I guess you should be able to do that...)
I am running Linux Mint 13 maya 64-bit
