It's slow in many Linux distros.
Pretty much takes a second for it to register where my mouse cursos is on Cinnamon.
Yep. It's some (probably) DBUS-related issue in the libappindicator, not the Steam client self...
_edit:_ I see plenty of these warnings in my ".xsession-errors" file:
(steam:19336): LIBDBUSMENU-GLIB-WARNING **: Trying to remove a child that doesn't believe we're it's parent.
I think it has something to do with this issue...
:( not much has changed here, but this is still https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/673 its an interaction that can be solved by the cinnamon devs.
Opening a bug here https://github.com/linuxmint/Cinnamon/issues/ would move this forward…
Are you sure it's a Cinnamon-related issue?
Because I'm experiencing this issue in practically every Desktop Environment (Window Manager) except the Unity...
I've had this problem for months now, it seems the tray icon when clicked on is really slow to pick up where the mouse pointer is to select an option.
