Hi averyone, is a month that i've this issue.
If i stay in games library and chat everything is ok, but crash if i click on Store or Community.
this happens only when steam run online.
i'd try many nvidia drivers, release and beta.
i'd try to delete the directories "Steam" in $HOME/.loca/share and $HOME/.steam, to purge steam package but nothing.

Now my configuration is:
Intel Core i7 2600
16Gb RAM
Nvidia Geforce GTX670 with 310.14 driver
Ubuntu 12,04 64bit with Gnome 3.4 (same problem on Unity)

here's my log:

roaming config store loaded successfully - 2253 bytes.

I would buy some linux games but i can't :(
Thanks

Do you have 32-bit Flash player installed? That may or may not help.

You should be able to buy games using a regular web browser. :-)

TTomin1 2013-05-09 github

I got a crash twice when I clicked Serious Sam package's advertisement on store's frontpage in Steam. I'm using Ubuntu 13.04 64-bit and I don't have 32-bit flash installed.

Where I can get the crash ids?

You don't have crash IDs since the uploads failed, but there's probably no need as this looks to be the known issue with HTML5 video playback (there are other issues open for that). If you install the 32-bit Flash player the crashes will most likely go away.

Steam crashes every time when trying to enter a store page of a game(in this case L4D2).

i had the same problem

the 32 bit flash player fixed it
create the 'plugins' folder and extract
user@desktop:~/.steam/bin/plugins$ ls
libflashplayer.so

Ggarrett85 2013-05-19 github

I created the plugins folder at ~/.steam/bin/plugins but where do I find this libflashplay.so file to extract?

Ggarrett85 2013-05-19 github

Okay, so I created plugins at ~/.steam/bin/plugins and extracted libflashplayer.so into that directory but it didn't work. Steam is still crashing after I click on a game in the store.

Ttarjoilija 2013-05-19 github

This is how I got it working:

  1. Download Flash Player 11.2 for other Linux (.tar.gz) 32-bit from here: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/
  2. Copy libflashplay.so from .tar.gz to ~/.steam/bin32/plugins
IIDex 2013-05-19 github

Worked. Thanks ppl.

Ggarrett85 2013-05-19 github

It worked thanks. I had downloaded the wrong adobe file, it too was libflashplay.so but must have been different somehow. How did you figure that out?

Ggdrewb-valve maintainer 2013-05-31 github

If someone wants to experiment and is using the latest client beta from today, can you remove the 32-bit Flash player and see if you still see a crash?

IIDex 2013-05-31 github

Still crashing when trying to play a video.

It no longer crashes on visiting a game page, but when pressing play: CrashID=bp-e7924e5b-bfac-480b-9af0-384802130531
Though it just installed an update (last version was 30th May), and its crashing again on visiting a page CrashID=bp-d433a6e3-823d-48f9-b7d2-df9842130531

?ghost 2013-06-02 github

I reported #2551 because I didn't find this thread before. I can confirm that Steam stopped crashing after I copied libflashplayer.so in ~/.steam/bin32/plugins. I'm in the opt-in Steam beta so it seems the last version still has this bug.

Ggdrewb-valve maintainer 2013-06-19 github

The latest Steam client beta has some changes that might help with this.

Ggdrewb-valve maintainer 2013-06-20 github

Today's client beta has a few more fixes.

Mmr-johnson 2013-06-23 github

The issue is still present in the latest beta.

Just chiming in that this is still actual as of steam-runtime-release-i386_2013-06-28.

Ggdrewb-valve maintainer 2013-07-24 github

@mr-johnson , what kind of CPU do you have? @Tinche, how about you?

The AMD illegal instruction fault should be fixed in the latest Steam client beta (not the stable Steam) but there may be multiple issues here.

TTinche 2013-07-24 github

@gdrewb-valve Hm, until now I was using the 32-bit libflashplayer.so fix, which made the problem go away. Now I've deleted the file and can't seem to reproduce the issue, hm. Here's my CPU info: https://gist.github.com/Tinche/6073635.

Ggdrewb-valve maintainer 2013-07-24 github

That's a good sign as you have an AMD processor and it should be fixed for you.

Ggdrewb-valve maintainer 2013-07-25 github

Closing this until we have reports it's still happening for somebody.

Nothing extracted yet.
