Steam client creates always-on-top rectangle in top-left corner.

I didn't notice this back when I was using Unity (maybe because Unity somehow covers this problem with the launcher/panel), but if you use the KDE desktop on Ubuntu you will find that there is a rectangular area in the top-left corner that's not redrawn any time Steam is running.

Now... you might not see it at first, because it doesn't render anything there, it just prevents the area from being redrawn. So, when you then start full-screen games, you get an ugly 'hole' that shows you whatever was on your desktop at that corner before the Steam client started. This is very annoying and affects the ability to see some HUD elements in games.

Note: It appears as a white rectangle in the snapshot because my desktop background is white in that area and not covered by a panel.

The area will begin drawing correctly if you stop/kill the steam client.

Swear this is a duplicate, but can’t find the report…
Would you attach the system information as requested here https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux#reporting-issues Additionally, could you run xprop (in a terminal) and click on the phantom rectangle and paste the output here.

Nor could I. :) Thanks for taking the time to look at this.

Here's the xprop info fo the phantom rectangle:

evil@saturn:~$ xprop
WM_PROTOCOLS(ATOM): protocols WM_DELETE_WINDOW
WM_TRANSIENT_FOR(WINDOW): window id # 0x5c0003f
WM_HINTS(WM_HINTS):
Client accepts input or input focus: True
_NET_WM_WINDOW_TYPE(ATOM) = _NET_WM_WINDOW_TYPE_MENU, _KDE_NET_WM_WINDOW_TYPE_OVERRIDE
_MOTIF_WM_HINTS(_MOTIF_WM_HINTS) = 0x2, 0x0, 0x0, 0x0, 0x0
WM_CLASS(STRING) = "Steam", "Steam"
WM_NORMAL_HINTS(WM_SIZE_HINTS):
user specified location: 0, 0
user specified size: 64 by 24

And below is my system info. I'm not using Unity at the moment, so I'm providing what I think the Help/Sysinfo there would have provided. Let me know if you need any additional information.
