Seen this aswell with the latest beta update, behaviour is intermittent as sometimes game links do open correctly.
I think we've isolated this issue and a future beta client (probably not the next one, but maybe the one after that) will have a fix.

I thought this was only affecting the Linux tab, but I reset the system and restarted Steam several times and sometimes the only options that work are Steam, View, Friends, Games, Help, Store, Library, Community, My Profile and View Friends List, if I click on a game banner for example, nothing happens, then when I restart I can click on games normally but a new window opens over the Steam one with the game´s information, sometimes the scroll button locks and I can´t see other pictures of the game, but no matter if everything works or no the error #2597 always happens (the client even closed once).
This happened after the last update.
