Self Updater freezes, when popped up to ask for a steam restart.
Click on any button ("RESTART STEAM", "CLOSE", "X") does not show any effect.

This issue needs more information, the file Steam/logs/bootstrap_log.txt may be helpful, having output from steam when this happens would be handy too - by launching steam in a terminal and waiting for an update to trigger.

Does the rest of the client freeze when this happens?

Yes, the rest of the client did freeze. I had this problem 3-5 times already.

Fun fact: After threatening the client to report the issue, he worked fine during the last update.

I am still running Steam in a console and will provide the output and the logfile, if the problem occurs again.
I can not provide logfiles of the last crashes as I am not sure at which time the freezes actually happened.
