In the Linux version of The Book of Unwritten Tales, with Catalyst 13.6 beta or 13.8 beta, entering certain areas of the game causes a crash to desktop every time. This is a separate issue from the known crash to desktop associated with going to the Settings menu, which has a community fix.

The first place I noticed this was when Ivo enters McGuffin's house. The game crashes as soon as the new area has loaded, every time. I was running Catalyst 13.6 beta when this was occurring. Reverting to the Catalyst 13.4 (non-beta) driver resolved this.

After completing the game, I installed the Catalyst 13.8 beta driver, and now see the problem again. I no longer have a save file from just outside McGuffin's house, but I do have one save file from inside the Crypt, and one save file from just outside the Crypt (area with the Paladin). Every time I try to load the Crypt save file, the game crashes to the desktop as soon as the area is 100% loaded. Every time I load the Outside save file, it works fine, but then every time I try to enter the Crypt, the game crashes as soon as the area is 100% loaded.

You should report this to AMD also.

Issue is cross-posted to AMD here:

If there's a better AMD forum for these kinds of issues, please let me know and I will submit the issue there.

Thanks!

I haven't found an official buglist for fglrx either, which is unfortunate since the new influx of commercial Linux games seems to be turning up plenty of crashing bugs. I think this AMD Linux support forum might be the best bet:

Hold on, according to a post at above forum ( http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm?catid=488&threadid=167190&enterthread=y ) there is an official place to submit bugreports: http://www.amdsurveys.com/se.ashx?s=5A1E27D23CFE9B36

Still an issue with Catalyst 13.11 beta.

Bbrefan 2014-02-09 github

Still with 14.1 beta v1.3 (fglrx_13.350)

Ccastarco 2014-03-09 github

Still an issue with AMD Catalyst 14.2 beta (Radeon HD7750), on Ubuntu 13.10.

In my case, the game crashes when i try to enter to the earth-pixies mine to obtain materials to fix the magic sword.

Not need to say, that's the reason because my Steam usage is very low since the bug appeared.

Closing as general video driver quality from 2014 is no longer relevant.
