Also can you check if there is a steam.desktop file in ~/.config/autostart. (OR $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/autostart if you have your config directory somewhere other that ~/.config)

There was a steam.desktop file in ~/.config/autostart, but it didn't worked.
Now, I deleted it and tried to enable "Start Steam when computer starts" again.
Now it works fine.

If you see this again, can you post the contents of steam.desktop before deleting it.

Ok, I will. Sorry for deleting it before.

Ok, it happened again.
I found, that Linux Mint 13 (maybe newer/older versions too) doesn't have ~/.config/autostart folder by default.
This folder is created on manual change in Startup Applications.

Steps to reproduce:
1/ Clean install of Linux Mint
2/ Install Steam, enable "Run Steam when my...."
3/ Reboot or log out and log in
4/ Steam won't start
5/ Look at ~/.config - there is no autostart folder

Temporary solution:
1/ Go to "Startup Applications"
2/ Do some change (I disabled Mint Welcome screen for example)
3/ Look at ~/.config - autostart folder is now here
4/ Enable "Run Steam when my computer...." again in Steam
5/ Log out and log in or reboot
6/ Steam will start
