Well, you may say this error was posted already, yes but it is happening in a different way with me.
Please kindly read my text, I will explain very clear.
Steam was working normally but, after one update on Thursday it is not the same anymore, I can´t get it to work again, I tried every single step of the following posts:
Issue #2380 (I posted here with more steps of what I did)
Issue #321
Issue #2179
Issue #126
I am always having this error message no matter what I do, except by the tip vgriph said on Issue #321:
$ cd ~/.steam/bin
$ ln -s /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/mesa/libGL.so.1
It gives me the following error:
OpenGL GLX context is not using direct rendering, which may cause performance problems.
For more information visit https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=9938-EYZB-7457.
I can start Steam but the games don´t work.
I removed Steam completely from my system and re-downloaded from the website, installed it and it worked but, when I choose the beta, it downloads almost 200 MB and I get the error again.
Here is the output of the command dpkg -l libgl1-mesa-glx:i386:

ii libgl1-mesa-gl 8.0.4-0ubuntu0 free implementation of the OpenGL API -- GLX
I don´t have any clue of how to fix it, I tried everything, after the aforementioned update the problem appeared, I had the same video driver installed (I reinstalled it like 2 or 3 times to test), I have ia32-lib installed and reinstalled them again, I exhausted all my options that´s why I am asking for your help, sorry for the long text!
I installed the latest version of Ubuntu (13.10 64 bit) and the error is gone, I could update to the latest Beta and login normally, so this must be something with 12.04.3 I think, I am closing this issue now.
