Recent Failure Reports:

It is very slow.

Haven't measured but I think it's close to 1 minute on TF2

I just started tf2

and I noticed this on console

Precache: Took 77507 ms, Vertex 1065, Pixel 2460

I have found that there is a bad problem with slow drive access on the
slightest fragmentation of the files.

Valve should set steam to preallocate disk space before installation.

However, as a workaround, you can run e4defrag after major updates, so long
as you are running ext4.

I also recommend installing preload and setting it's config to include home
directories for both binaries and data files.

I got new install of kubuntu 13.10, I have just installed tf2.

There was a workaround on dota2. Steam/dota has/had cpu speed test. Which somehow was using too much resources. Setting that setting on your cpu speed or disabled speed up dota 2 loading speed massively I am talking here about 10-20s speed up. Measuring cpu speed shouldnt effect that much dota 2 game loading.

Some update broke that setting, it has no effect anymore.

Some issue is those precalculated things, which are calculated even they are not needed in the game.

Some people experience faster load on wine than native steam..

@deri82 the issue with RDTSC_FREQUENCY is not with the game using too much resources to find it, it's with someone assuming that modern processors run at one speed. If the system is using the ondemand cpu governer (a common scenario), RDTSC_FREQUENCY ends up getting set to the idle cpu speed, so for me the game is using a timer set to 1400 instead of 3600.

Explain me how is it possible to have a setting (that doesnt currently work) decrease 10-30s loading speed.

There is something really wrong timing the speed of cpu if one setting can slow down game load so bad.

Hello @deri82, are you still experiencing this issue on an up to date system?

Closing as general video driver quality from 2013 is no longer relevant.
