I just installed Linux Mint 16 Cinnamon on my laptop (Core i3 Sandy Bridge, HD 3000), and sadly, DotA 2 and TF2 are unplayable. I have no idea what the issue could be -- I highly doubt it's driver issues, because Intel's graphics drivers have always been great, and also because before LM16 I had Debian testing installed, and in that case DotA 2 and TF2 worked. (In Debian, I had a separate issue where they would periodically freeze for up to ten seconds before responding, but they were largely playable.) I'm thinking that there might be some issues with Cinnamon 2.0, but I couldn't even speculate what those might be.

Here's a screenshot of DotA 2: http://filesmelt.com/dl/Screenshot_from_2013-12-25_22:23:27.png

Based on some screenshots posted by Ars Technica, they appeared to have the same issues with Mint 16 with all-Intel hardware. It's probably a Cinnamon issue.

Edit: User "duplicitea" commented on the Ars Technica article with the fix for Mint 16 rendering issues: it is sufficient to install the libtxc-dxtn-s2tc0 and libtxc-dxtn-s2tc0:i386 packages, which immediately fixed DotA 2 for me.

Nothing extracted yet.
