I have had steam working fine for ~2 months on this install, and have not had any problems. Today, however, it crashed when starting dota2, and I have been unable to get it to start again. I am running the latest version of Fedora Rawhide, and installed steam through the rpmfusion-nonfree repo. I have tried reinstalling steam with "steam --reset; steam" but have encountered the same error. I have also tried to reinstall steam through yum, but again to no avail. After installing the steam-noruntime package and running steam as "STEAM_RUNTIME=0 steam" I still had no luck.

I get this output when running steam normally (yeilding this dump), and this output when using native libraries (yielding this dump). Here's my hardware info according to lshw. I believe the first crash (when launching dota) yielded this dump.

Edit: fixed after reboot...

Steam just crashed and will not restart (due to segfaults). This happened with dota 2 open and talking to someone in steam chat, but not while playing a game.

If Steam was updating and crashed, it is most likely your video card drivers. This is a recurring problem with the Steam bootloader and closed source video drivers under Linux. My advice would be to uninstall your video drivers and use the open source drivers to install Steam, then reinstall your video drivers.

If you looked at my hardware, you'd see that I am running on intel integrated graphics, which conveniently doesn't have a closed-source driver.

Maybe try another distro? I'm not a big fan of Fedora. I'm running Debian. I installed Steam using the testing repos. If you are not a fan of Debian, try Ubuntu or a variation.

Regardless of whether you are a a fan of fedora, I am. Switching distros is not an option, especially when the bug has so recently appeared. (And installing OSs is a pain in the butt)

I suggested another Linux distro because I am running Debian and Steam with no issues. Once in a while I have to uninstall my fglrx driver to get it working, but only if Steam crashes while updating. Otherwise it works. Steam probably runs best on Ubuntu. Installing another Linux distro is just a temporary solution to your problem.

Ok, I'm noticing a pattern here. I have dota open, and am messaging someone on steam, when it crashes. I am unable to restart steam until I reboot. (probably purging some cached files) I will try messaging with different games open to see what happens.

Edit: This appears to be non-steam-specific and a bug with kernel 3.15.0.rc1. Booting with an older kernel fixes the problems, as well as a few other segfaults.

Edit 2: This does not seem to be related to the current kernel; even on older kernels the bug reappears. When the system boots, everything works fine, but at some point, programs stop working. While laying awesomenauts, I had about 2 seconds of lag, and suddenly the framerate dropped siginificantly (down to 10 fps from >30). Son after, steam crashed. Games are now segfaulting when the load. This could be a graphics driver issue.

Edit 3: confirmed issues with graphics driver; not steam-specific

Nothing extracted yet.
