Uh... what virtualization solution were you using when this occurred?
I was using VMware player on windows 7.
It might be an issue with the limitations of the VM's virtualized graphics.
It crashed at the loading screen for the game and when I allocated 4GB of RAM for the VM I was able to run the game, poorly. but it ran. The confusing part is why when I came back the language had been set to Chinese.
Closing old non-Valve issue (can still be found in search).
Nothing extracted yet.
I installed the client in an Ubuntu 12.04 VM and when I attempted to run FTL it froze, I'm just going to guess it was a RAM bottleneck since I forgot to allocate it more than 512MB, and I ended up at the terminal login screen. After exiting that and restoring the GUI the system language was set to Chinese.
