I had the same issue and I didn't find any help so this is my solution.
My setup
Ubuntu 14.04 GNOME edition 64bit
NVIDIA Gtx 260
I installed official drivers from Nvidia website. During the installation, the wizard asks to install 32 bit libraries. I said yes but this leads to the problem. To solve the problem, you have to remove all files in /usr/lib32 that Nvidia installer created.
I replaced files because I have an error if I try to launch a game. Now, if I try to launch a game(L4D2), it stops immediately without errors.

PS: Sorry if I did spelling errors.
