Steam "Support" have referred me here.

I cannot play "XCOM: Enemy Unknown". I first opened a ticket with 2K the third part developer. They recommend I verify files, using the Steam Client. When this did not rectify the issue they recommended installing from physical media, which, of course, I do not have as I bought a digital download from Steam. 2K referred me to Steam "Support" who despite me detailing the issues and 2K's response told me to open a ticket with the third party games designer and closed my ticket.

I was unimpressed. I reopened my ticket...Steam "Support"'s last input was to firstly suggested I:

  1. Open Terminal
  2. Type steam --reset

Their last advice, when this took me no further forward, was:
"For highly technical issues it's best that you use Github to discuss them with our developers directly.

@themainliner You are looking to contact Feral Interactive, who did the linux port of Xcom: Enemy Unknown (http://www.feralinteractive.com/en/linux-games/).

Here's an idea: Upgrade your distro to 64 bit. Absolutely no reason to cripple your hardware with an old-as-dirt 32 bit OS. There exists no 32 bit version of XCOM.

@NothingMuchHereToSay "There exists no 32 bit version of XCOM." This is valuable information, knowing this actually resolves my problem. Thanks. "Absolutely no reason to cripple your hardware with an old-as-dirt 32 bit OS", this is the kind of remark I'd expect from a Windows user, unhelpful, condescending and arrogant. No thanks.

Nothing extracted yet.
