The problem is, it hasn't been mounted until I mount it manually by loading the files up , now should the Steam Client mount it itself to save the user hassle?

Personally, I would want the steam client to have nothing to do with mounting file systems. I'd expect the desktop environment to do unprivledged mounts (like /media) and nothing else.
