Can confirm this.
Input works again when you opt-out of the beta.
Confirming with latest stable Steam update, on Arch Linux 64 bit with Xfce.

I'm also having this problem with the stable 2014-08-20 relase (tried to enable beta version with the same results). Tested with 2 different usb keyboards (1 corded and 1 cordless)
The problem is also noticeable in the "save as" menu (and in other text typing situations, like "rename your kingdom" screen). It seems the only key working is the backspace (and the esc). I can delete letters from the default save name, but I can't write new ones.
Was working just fine before the last update.
Kubuntu 14.04.1 LTS (64 bit)

I'm having exactly the same issue as oraculus on Ubuntu 12.04 - without being opted in to the beta.
Can confirm. Not opted-in to the beta.
Linux version 3.16.3-1-ARCH x64
I'm not sure if this a bug on Steam Runtime or something I'm using incorrectly but it looks like SDL_TEXTINPUT gets an extra character(1 on ASCII) alongside the pressed key. This wasn't the case before the latest update. I'll patch the game to skip that particular character.
thanks @mustafakorkmaz with the last update of M&B:W the game is working ok again!
Sounds like the M&B:W guys fixed it, great.
SDL_TEXTINPUTx1 2014-09
Steps to reproduce:
Reverting back to the stable version of the Steam Client allows the text input to work properly.
