So since about ~2 steam client updates back, downloading and installing games on my Fedora 19 box have been having problems. I get a bug I see quite a bit from 2012/2013 in these forums but for the most part these issues appear to be related to #2409. This does not appear to be.

"/home/buildbot/buildslave_steam/steam_rel_client_ubuntu12_linux/build/src/tier1/../tier1/fileio.cpp (2984) : Assertion Failed: Failed to determine free disk space for /home//.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/mark_of_the_ninja, error 2"

(username cut)

but my /home partition never had an issue before this, and it is directly mounted local ext4, no symlinks, bind mounts, etc. This is a recent change in the build or bad interaction with a library call?

"/dev/sda6 on /home type ext4 (rw,relatime,seclabel,data=writeback)"

data is set to standard /home//.local/share/Steam as per the default.

disk has plenty of free space in both / and /home.

"Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda1 193G 6.6G 176G 4% /
devtmpfs 2.0G 0 2.0G 0% /dev
tmpfs 2.0G 21M 1.9G 2% /dev/shm
tmpfs 2.0G 932K 2.0G 1% /run
tmpfs 2.0G 0 2.0G 0% /sys/fs/cgroup
tmpfs 2.0G 19M 1.9G 1% /tmp
/dev/sda6 470G 147G 300G 33% /home "

selinux is in permissive mode, no links to /home, no encryption, no "odd" filesystems, /home isn't a bind mount, kernel hasn't been updated in a while, though I did do a fairly major set of rpm updates about a week before I noticed the daily updates for Starbound were getting sporked but things worked for a couple of days after that. (libstdc++ is the only thing updates steam shows from ldd that might affect it) Running Fedora 19, kernel 3.13.6-100.fc19.x86_64.

I've switched to the beta stream Steam client, same problem.

Hints? If I sit there forever re-clicking update I can eventually get a small program to finish. But a multi-gig game will take forever. This does not seg-fault at least. :-/

Sounds similar to #3500 so you are not the only one.

Possibly. Though that issue appears on the surface to be related to using FDE (and there are some messages in chat and forum talking about FDE and this type of thing). I am not using FDE. (full disk encryption) For me, however, there is no intermitancy. Fully reproducible every time.

I have updated the system to Fedora 20. No change in (mis)behavior :(

Last beta (or two) is no longer exhibiting this behavior. At least for 2 tests of about 7+ GB downloading. Crossing fingers but this could get closed.

Nothing extracted yet.
