Honestly I have no knowledge of XIM/ibus and similar things.
But what I do know is it was working just fine like month or two ago. So this is not something that was never working, it was just broken recently. Sounds like they messed something up in their steam-runtime thing.
Bump, still a valid issue, pretty serious blocker. Does anyone even care?

In recent beta versions, I'm unable to type any characters with diacritics. Some examples:
These character are not written at all. Pretty annoying, please fix ASAP.
