This happened to my twice now, although I can not reproduce it at will.

  • Steam starts with my system (Ubuntu 12.04) and the login box appears
  • I enter my login credentials
  • SteamGuard asks for verification (at that point I knew from last time, that this issue was at fault again)
  • I quit Steam and looked at my user home
  • I found the two folders appcache and logs in /home/myusername/
  • I delete them, start Steam again, everything is as it should be (no SteamGuard, no new folders in my user home)

The first time I had this issue and just thought that SteamGuard forgot my machine, noticed in Steam that no games were installed and that when re-adding the library folders all game configs were reset (TF2 was playing an Intro when started, although I set it to -nointro)

Is this the bug that was mentioned on
http://linux.slashdot.org/story/15/01/16/1429201/steam-for-linux-bug-wipes-out-all-of-a-users-files
???
Let me know as I wanna highlight this one.

Tele42 , Could someone write a bug for it, as I'm happy to bountysource it.
I shall register it first on Bs automatically as long as it's on here first, and apply mucha dollars later.

@3rdwiki: No, what you mean is #3671
And no, it's not the same bug, as here $STEAMHOME points to /home/myusername and is not empty.

And what do you mean by write a bug for it? It doesn't sound on-topic

K thanks, bounty created.

I am having a similar issue. Ubuntu 14.04
When I start steam it asks for steam-guard, which is weird since it is the same pc i normally use.
When open tells me I have no local games. (when manually checking the default location they are there)

Solution is to quit steam and start it again. While I am happy that simple a fix worked, it scared the crap out of me that it happened.

I have this issue since a few weeks too. First login when I restart the Computer tries to use the ~/Steam folder and ask for a login. When I close Steam instead and start it again it uses my saved login data and real Steam folder in ~/.local/share/Steam.

For some reason Steam is confused which Steam folder it should use, the one directly in $HOME or the one in ~/.local/share.

I'm on Linux Mint 17.1 x64.

Hello, has anyone seen this issue with an up to date system?

NNoXPhasma 2018-06-01 github

I haven't had this issue for a very long time.
