Hello @crlsgms, @FireCulex, are either of you still experiencing this issue on an up to date system?

Well, iv recently installed lmde on my box, and installed steam via oficial repos, some infos about the machine:
lspci / lsusb / uname
So, I uninstalled steam completly, deleted the ~.steam and ~Steam folders, and fired it up again:
On the first run, I get this log:
it goes all the way on the download repeating this line, with the "updating steam" box counting up the bytes. And it fails, everytime, some missing only 10, 12B from the download. My internet is quite good, I have 50/50MB via fiber from the state university, mostly normal downloads comes on 5mb/s
All the other times calling the steam agent, it goes mostly all the way up and hangs near its finish, Im trying this on different times, since monday (today its thursday) when I first installed LMDE.
A friend on irc uploaded for me the ~/Steam folder, and even overwriting it over the folder created by the fresh steam installer those magical 254.958 KB never finishes downloading.
Is there anywhere I can clear up some kind of timeout on this install? I tryed changing dns, connect on this pc through my cellphone 3G, but it does always the same result, goes almost to the finish and hangs with the "... steam needs to be online to update..."
