Steam Causes High Xorg CPU Usage Over Time

It's not big but i always see my steam taking from 0 - 4% cpu in indle, over time up to 12-20%
And it's worst if im using steam with wine..
The only window opened is the Friend one, it's sitting in background
Maybe it has something to do with how many friend you got on steam, it takes much more power if steam has to refresh a bigger list of friend
No, I don't have many friends at all so I can say that it's nothing to do with the friends list. I'm sure if you leave it running long enough, your Xorg usage will rise to 100%. When I posted this bug, Xorg was consuming an entire core -- and this is on a 4GHz processor core -- lagging the desktop until I forcefully quit Steam, in which the usage instantly dropped back to 0%.
I have this too - steam starts to use more and more CPU until its stopped (See attachment). When I forcefully kill the process, Xorg uses 100% cpu for a couple of minutes and my desktop is unresponsive but then it clears up.

Same issue here as well, leaving steam running causes CPU usage to increase. Eating battery and overheating the system after several hours.

It is 2018 and this issue still affecting me on Ubuntu Linux 17.10, Nvidia GTX680
Oddly enough, I just had the same issue. Old system - Ubuntu 16.04, Radeon HD 6950 and AMD CPU though
Not the first time I see it happen but now it didn't resolve it on its own.
Note: I usually just suspend my computer, so technically Steam could have run for days before I shut it down.

Since the original release of Steam, the longer Steam has been running on the system, the higher the CPU consumption of Xorg and the sluggishness of the desktop. It's most noticeable after you leave Steam running for a few days, if not an entire week, without closing it. I've had issues with all of my systems, each of which use the open source Gallium3D Radeon drivers. Naturally, this occurs regardless of which version of Mesa you are running, be that an old release from around the time Steam for Linux first came out, or the new builds with OpenGL 4.1 enabled. Perhaps others have had the same issues as well.
