What changes have you made to the system?
As well, please include information as requested at https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/
Basically I have done none changes. The computer hardware is the same. I have had made few linux mint reinstalls, because I had problem installing ati. I have noticed that it doesn't install with all kernels. The default seems to work. The interface of steam is very laggy. I have no idea why. Steam randomly crashes now, haven't done that before. One error has been on the line 72. I don't remember the file, but it's common error on the steam. I have added the -nojoy parameter and taken away friends community...

There is several issues with AMD Catalyst and the Steam client: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/429.
It is recommended to use XRender for KDE desktop effects, however I noticed that using XRender makes the steam client very unresponsive with my setup (old fglrx driver 12.10 from kubuntu 12.10 repositories). Since switching to OpenGL desktop effects, the client is pretty responsive with my hardware.
Maybe this change could help you too? See #594 for details.
Is this still active with recent drivers?
NO
I don't know why but the client is very unresponsive. I used kubuntu 12.10 before I didn't have this issue back then.
Now with same system and drivers it's laggy.
